Fighting for Equality, One Cause at a Time

BE PART OF A BETTER WORLD! BE A 21st CENTURY ACTIVIST!

What does it mean to be an activist in the 21st Century? Do you have to be on CNN? Do you have to a political lobbyist? Should you wear a politically charged T-shirt every day? NO. 21st century activist is about doing daily, weekly and monthly work to improve our community and world.

Activism ISN'T HARD. It is about finding small-scale sustainable ways to contribute to large causes. Donate to one charity on KIVA a week, clean up the neighborhood you live in, contribute to a food drive or send a letter to a senator encouraging them to lobby for environmental protections. Find a small cause and fight for it.

Lately, I've left the world of LGBT Activism and gotten passionate about smaller, more immediate issues in my own community. I'd like to see a food bank in Las Vegas. I'd like to see the city pushing for green energy initiates in a solar power rich ecology. I'd like to donate more clothes and unused items to GoodWill. I'm learning to make small steps each day, week and month to benefit the community and planet.

So, JOIN ME. Make one small change this week! Start a compost. Recycle more! Walk to work and spare some gas for our fragile planet! See if you can implement small scale changes to contribute to our world. Examine your life and see if you can change it.

Some of My Past Work:

Fighting for Your Tuition!
Helping to ensure that your SU tuition stays as reasonable as possible.

Demanding Campus Equality
When protesters came to our campus to encourage harmful "ex-gay" therapy, we were the first to respond with a message of community and love.

Remembering Pan Am 103
Learn more about the SU Students who died in December 1988 on Pan Am 103. Learn how you can become a marshall for our campus to remember and creatively use the pain of this loss.

Responding to the Haitian Crisis
Helping raise awareness and funds for Haitian Earthquake victims. Donate to Partners In Health now!

Steps to Join in!

  • Do something to engage the world every day: Read a newspaper, go out into your community and GET IN TOUCH WITH THE WORLDand see how you can help!

  • Make one giving choice a week: Find some way to GIVE BACK each week. Donate some clothes, volunteer at a community garden or just attend a meeting on your campus or in your neighborhood to make it better.

  • Find a Cause: Do the work to find some cause that MAKES YOU WANT TO ACT. Support victims of partner abuse at a domestic violence shelter, join a youth group or be a tutor for a student in a low-income school district. Find the issue that motivates you to make change.
